ENCOR 3.1 Layer 2 (part of Infrastructure, 30%)

Layer 2 is a troubleshoot and configure and verify domain. Expect exhibits of show interfaces trunk, show etherchannel summary and show spanning-tree from two or three switches, with a question about why a VLAN does not pass, why a member is not bundled, or which port blocks. Simulation items in this area ask you to fix trunks and bundles or to build an MST region, so you must be able to type the syntax without help.

Objective Verb Page
3.1.a Static and dynamic 802.1Q trunking: DTP modes and outcomes, native VLAN, allowed VLANs, VTP basics Troubleshoot 802.1Q Trunking
3.1.b Static and dynamic EtherChannels: LACP, PAgP, on, misconfiguration guard, load balancing, consistency Troubleshoot EtherChannel
3.1.c RSTP and Rapid PVST+: roles, states, proposal/agreement, edge ports Configure and verify RSTP
3.1.c MST: regions, instances, IST, CIST, interaction with Rapid PVST+ Configure and verify MST
3.1.c Spanning tree enhancements: PortFast, BPDU Guard, BPDU Filter, Root Guard, Loop Guard Configure and verify STP Protection

Time budget: week 3 of the study plan. Spend the first two days on trunking and EtherChannel, two days on RSTP and MST, and one day on the protection features and the quiz. Every page has a lab on the same three-switch block (DIST1, DIST2, ACC1 on IOSvL2), so build it once from Lab Setup and keep it.

When you finish, take the Layer 2 practice questions. Aim for 80% or better before moving on.
