Sim 12: Infrastructure Services: DHCP Relay, IP SLA Tracking and SNMPv3

Blueprint 4.2, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6

Difficulty Time target Devices Faults
Medium 25 minutes 1 x Catalyst 8000v, 3 x IOSv, 1 x Ubuntu 3

Scenario

R1 is a branch router (Catalyst 8000v) with a primary WAN link to the head-office router R2 and a backup link through R3. It provides these services:

  • DHCP relay: the branch LAN gets IPv4 addresses from the IOS DHCP server on R2 (relay with ip helper-address) and stateful DHCPv6 addresses from the same server (DHCPv6 relay).
  • IP SLA and object tracking: an ICMP echo probe checks R2's WAN address every 5 seconds. The primary default route is tied to the probe with track 1; a floating default route through R3 (AD 10) takes over when the probe fails.
  • SNMPv3: the NMS at 10.2.100.50 polls R1 using user nmsuser with SHA authentication and AES-128 privacy (authPriv).
  • Flexible NetFlow: traffic entering from the branch LAN is exported to the collector at 10.2.100.50, UDP 2055, NetFlow v9.
