Sim 08: PBR, VRF-Lite and BFD

Blueprint 1.6, 1.7, 1.8

Difficulty Time target Devices Faults
Hard 30 minutes 4 x IOSv 3

Scenario

R1 is a branch edge router that keeps corporate and guest traffic apart with VRF-Lite. VRF CORP and VRF GUEST share one physical link to the hub R2, using 802.1Q subinterfaces, and each VRF runs its own OSPF process. A second, slower corporate path runs from R1 through R3 to R2.

  • PBR: voice traffic from the voice subnet 10.4.11.0/24 (behind the LAN router R4) must use the R3 path, which has the voice-friendly carrier. Data traffic follows normal routing, which prefers the direct link.
  • BFD: OSPF in VRF CORP on the direct R1 to R2 link must detect a silent failure in under one second, so BFD runs on that subinterface with a 300 ms interval and a multiplier of 3.
  • Isolation: guest users must reach only the guest Internet edge on R2 (10.2.200.0/24) and never any corporate prefix.
