Virtualization Practice Questions

15 original questions covering ENCOR 2.1 to 2.3. Answer every one before opening any explanation. Target: 12 of 15 (80%).

1. Blueprint 2.1

An administrator enables the Hyper-V role on a Windows Server and creates three VMs. Which hypervisor type is running?

  • A. Type 2, because Hyper-V was enabled from inside Windows
  • B. Neither, Hyper-V is a container engine
  • C. Type 2, because Windows remains the host operating system
  • D. Type 1, because the hypervisor loads underneath the Windows instance
Answer: D

Once the role is enabled, the Hyper-V hypervisor runs directly on the hardware and the Windows installation becomes a privileged partition on top of it. That makes it type 1. A and C confuse "where you enabled it" with "where it runs". Hyper-V runs full VMs with their own kernels, so it is not a container engine (B).

2. Blueprint 2.1

An ESXi host uses a standard vSwitch with the load balancing policy "Route based on IP hash". Its two uplinks connect to one Catalyst switch configured as follows. The port channel never comes up.

interface range GigabitEthernet1/0/1 - 2
 switchport mode trunk
 channel-group 5 mode active

What fixes it?

  • A. Change the channel-group mode to passive
  • B. Change the channel-group mode to on
  • C. Change the vSwitch policy to "Route based on originating virtual port"
  • D. Remove the channel group and leave two independent trunks
Answer: B

A standard vSwitch cannot negotiate LACP, so active (and passive, A) wait for LACP packets that never arrive. IP hash on a standard vSwitch expects a static EtherChannel, which is mode on. D and C would also produce a working design, but they change the teaming design instead of fixing the bundle that the IP hash policy requires.

3. Blueprint 2.1

A lab host must run a Windows Server and a Linux server side by side, each with its own kernel. Which technology fits?

  • A. Containers on a Linux host
  • B. Two VRFs on the host's virtual switch
  • C. A hypervisor running two virtual machines
  • D. VXLAN between two network namespaces
Answer: C

Containers share the host kernel (A), so a Linux host cannot run a Windows container natively. VMs each boot their own operating system on virtual hardware. VRFs (B) and VXLAN (D) separate network traffic, not operating systems.

4. Blueprint 2.2.a

Refer to the exhibit.

R1# show vrf
  Name Default RD Protocols Interfaces
  GUEST <not set> ipv4 Gi2.30
  STAFF <not set> ipv4,ipv6 Gi2.20
                                                                     Gi3

Which two statements are true? (Choose two.)

  • A. VRF GUEST and VRF STAFF cannot be used until an RD is configured
  • B. GigabitEthernet4 is not listed, so it is in the global routing table or unconfigured
  • C. A host on Gi3 can reach a host on Gi2.30 without route leaking
  • D. Both VRFs share one routing table because neither has an RD
  • E. VRF STAFF can carry IPv6 routes
Answer: B, E

The Protocols column shows both address families enabled for STAFF. Interfaces that do not appear belong to the global table. An RD is not needed for VRF-Lite (A, D): each VRF has its own table the moment it is created. Gi3 is in STAFF and Gi2.30 in GUEST, so they cannot reach each other without leaking (C).

5. Blueprint 2.2.a

R1 has an internet uplink in the global table with next hop 198.51.100.1. Users in VRF GUEST need a default route through it. Which command adds that route?

  • A. ip route vrf global 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 198.51.100.1
  • B. ip route vrf GUEST 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 198.51.100.1 global
  • C. ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 198.51.100.1 vrf GUEST
  • D. ip vrf GUEST route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 198.51.100.1
Answer: B

ip route vrf GUEST installs the route in VRF GUEST, and the global keyword tells IOS to resolve the next hop in the global table. The others are not valid syntax. Return traffic still needs a global route toward the GUEST subnets, and in practice NAT on the uplink.
